Mobigo Touch Learning System

This is the Mobigo by VTech, probably the best handheld gaming device for small children. My son got one of these for his third birthday and has not set it down since! Designed for ages 3-8 the Mobigo will be with your child for years. This is the system you want if you are worried about the games your child plays not being educational.

The Mobigo is very sturdy and is built to take a beating. It is just the right size for a child’s small hands . One of the main features of the Mobigo is its multiple methods of play. It has a touch screen, D-pad, and full QWERTY keyboard. The sound quality is nothing spectacular but is plenty good for your child to understand what is being said.

Games for the Mobigo come in either a cartridge or an online download and are full of your children’s favorite characters. Every game on the Mobigo is focused on teaching your child. Be it math or the alphabet, the Mobigo delivers education in a fun package. Kids can pick up any game and within minutes are deep in play with the help of voice tutorials that walk your children, step by step, through how to play. My son has his games down to a tee and now only asks us to help him when he wants to change the game cartridge.

The individual games for the Mobigo average around $20 for the cartridge version and $2-$4 for the digital copy.  The digital copies are far cheaper but whenever you change the batteries on the Mobigo you will have to recopy the games from your computer onto the handheld.  Not much of an inconvenience considering the savings!

My only gripe about the Mobigo would be its short battery life. The Mobigo runs on 4 AA batteries for around 3-4 hours of game play. My son burns through batteries so fast we went ahead and invested in rechargeable batteries.

Overall the Mobigo is an excellent handheld gaming system for children.  With child friendly controls and a plethora of fun games the Mobigo stands out.  Do yourself the favor though and pick up some rechargeable batteries, this thing devours them.  At around $30 the VTech – MobiGo Touch Learning System is by far the most bang for your buck in the handheld market.
